The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si, inaugurated three professors from three different faculties at USU in a joint ceremony held at the Student Hall on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. Among them was Prof. Dr. Miswar Budi Mulya, S.Si., M.Si, appointed as a Permanent Professor in the field of General Ecology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).
The event was attended by the Rector and his staff, the Board of Trustees, the Academic Senate, professors, deans, vice deans, lecturers, administrative staff, as well as invited guests, including family, colleagues, and students.
“Congratulations to the professors inaugurated today. We look forward to your innovative contributions in supporting USU as a World Class University, particularly in strengthening the educational ecosystem,” said the Rector.
In his scientific speech titled “Study of Penaeus merguiensis Resource Recruitment in the Eastern Coast of North Sumatra to Achieve National Food Self-Sufficiency,” Prof. Miswar highlighted the vast potential of marine fisheries on the eastern coast of North Sumatra. He emphasized the significant economic value of Penaeus merguiensis, commonly known as banana prawn, white shrimp, or jerbung.
He explained that the increasing market demand for Penaeus merguiensis has led to heightened fishing activities in the area. Prof. Miswar stated that this commodity holds tremendous potential in achieving national food self-sufficiency. Information on the population, distribution, and recruitment of Penaeus merguiensis in this region can serve as a foundation for sustainable management, ensuring domestic food security while contributing to national food independence.
During this momentous occasion, Prof. Miswar expressed his heartfelt gratitude, respect, and appreciation to everyone who had supported, motivated, and prayed for his career journey. Special thanks were given to his parents for their exemplary role and prayers, as well as to his wife and children for their sacrifices in supporting his aspirations.
The lecturers and staff of FMIPA also extended their congratulations and best wishes to Prof. Dr. Miswar Budi Mulya for this remarkable achievement.
