The Dean of FMIPA USU, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., was inaugurated by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The event was attended by the Board of Trustees, Academic Senate, Professors, Deans, and Vice Deans from across USU, along with lecturers, staff, family members, colleagues, and students.
In his speech, USU Rector, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., emphasized that the position of Professor is the highest functional title a lecturer can achieve. “Our task as Professors, which must be carried out continuously, is to gain recognition from the international community,” said the Rector.
In her inaugural speech titled “Species Distribution Models as Tools for Future Existence Modeling of the Pandanaceae Family,” Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., highlighted the need to explore the richness of the genera Benstonea, Freycinetia, and Pandanus in the Pandanaceae family in Sumatra. Comprehensive research, particularly on the Benstonea and Pandanus genera, is urgently required due to rampant development in coastal and forest areas, which often neglects the existence of Pandanaceae species. Deforestation in various regions also poses a threat to the survival of these genera, especially those located deep within the forest. Species modeling of the Pandanaceae family provides an ideal distribution map, but validation must be conducted through field exploration of their habitats.
On this occasion, Prof. Nursahara expressed her gratitude and appreciation to everyone who has supported and motivated her throughout her career. She paid special tribute to her late parents, Elieser Pasaribu and H. Nurhana Siregar, for their endless love, care, and patience. Prof. Nursahara also prayed for them to be placed in the best position by Allah SWT. Additionally, she thanked her siblings and her beloved son, Muhammad Sahlan Mubarak, for their immense sacrifices. “I realize the great sacrifices you’ve made for me. At a time when you needed my attention and love the most, I had to divide my time to complete my doctoral studies,” she said.
After the inauguration ceremony at the USU Student Hall, a thanksgiving luncheon was held at the Multipurpose Room of FMIPA USU. The luncheon was attended by the Rector of USU, Vice Rectors I, II, III, and V, Deans from various faculties at USU, as well as FMIPA USU lecturers, staff, family members, and Prof. Nursahara’s colleagues. The event proceeded solemnly, beginning with a speech from Vice Rector I, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., and concluding with a luncheon accompanied by music and performances from attending guests.
