Alumni Testimonials

I gained the best experience and resources from here.

Studying in the Biology Study Program is the best experience and capital to become a member of the Indonesian Police Corps. Not only did I gain knowledge and skills in the field of biological science, but the provision of soft skills has also been an important factor in my career to date. Biology is the best.

1997 - Head of the Eradication Division of the Jakarta Provincial Narcotics Agency

I was educated to learn and manage environmental conservation.

The Biology Study Program has provided provisions so that I am able to continue learning and managing environmental conservation, especially on the island of Sumatra with various stakeholders from within and outside the country. The introduction to community problems and the network that was built eventually encouraged me to play a further role as a bureaucrat, namely the Deputy Regent of South Tapanuli until now. Biology triumphs!

The knowledge and skills I gained from my studies have greatly supported my current career.

Biology Greetings!
I am an alumnus of the Biology Undergraduate Program, FMIPA USU, class of 1991. Currently, I work as a Civil Servant at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, serving as a Functional Health Entomologist. Our main duty is to carry out vector and disease-carrying animal control activities.

To support work in this field, expertise is required in identifying and understanding the behavior of animals, particularly insects, to determine whether or not they are vectors of disease. The scientific knowledge I acquired during my studies in the Biology Department has greatly supported my current work—especially the courses in Invertebrates, Microbiology, and the elective course on Insects.

Moreover, the skills in conducting field surveys that we learned during college are also highly useful when performing surveys in rural areas with challenging natural terrain. One of the main requirements to become a Functional Health Entomologist at the Ministry of Health is having an academic background in Biology.

Currently, we are also conducting several studies on mosquito species in collaboration with several universities, both domestic and international. Interestingly, most of my research colleagues also hold undergraduate degrees in Biology from various countries. This demonstrates that Biology graduates have strong prospects in the fields of research and education.
