FMIPA PR – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully held the Student Achievement Selection (Pilmapres) for the Bachelor’s degree program in the Multipurpose Room of FMIPA USU, Unit 8, 1st Floor, on Friday, May 20, 2025.
Pilmapres is an annual student competition organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. It aims to recognize top students who have the potential to become agents of change and contribute to building a better Indonesia, focusing on both undergraduate and diploma programs.
In her opening remarks, Vice Dean I of FMIPA USU, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., representing the Dean of FMIPA USU, stated, “This Pilmapres can also help improve IKU achievements, especially in providing students with valuable experience beyond the campus, including extracurricular activities and accomplishments.”
The event featured an experienced and highly qualified panel of judges who assessed the students based on comprehensive intelligence, covering both hard and soft skills. The jury for this year’s Pilmapres included Dr. Irwana Nainggolan, M.Si., Dr. Ir. Parapat Gultom, MSIE, Ph.D., IPU, ASEAN Eng., and Prof. Dr. Kiki Nurtjahja, M.Sc. A total of 6 participants from various undergraduate programs at FMIPA USU competed for the top spots.
Each participant submitted a scientific paper presenting a creative idea for undergraduate studies and an innovative product for diploma studies, all in English, followed by a Q&A session with the jury.
After thorough evaluation, the winners were announced:
1st Place: Ofin Hasrat Lase (Physics)
2nd Place: M. Rajaskana Syahputra (Physics)
3rd Place: Jojor Tiur Trifosa Silitonga (Mathematics)
The first‑place winner from FMIPA will move on to compete at the university level, alongside winners from other faculties within USU.
This event serves as an encouragement for students to continue achieving excellence across intra‑curricular, co‑curricular, and extra‑curricular activities. It is a prestigious award granted exclusively to energetic students excelling in both hard and soft skills.
