FMIPA USU honors its retiring faculty members who dedicated their lives to education and research. The farewell ceremony symbolizes respect for their significant contributions to the university and society.
Retirement is the period when professors or employees end their duties after reaching the retirement age in an institution or company. This event is sacred because not all professors or employees are blessed by God Almighty to experience this moment, as some may have to stop serving before reaching retirement age. Therefore, professors who can conclude their service with a good name, proud achievements, and the success of producing students with national or international accomplishments should feel fortunate.
Between 2017 and 2021, FMIPA USU bid farewell to 31 professors who had dedicated themselves as professional educators and scientists, transforming, developing, and disseminating knowledge and technology through education, research, and community service. The emotion and pride felt during their farewell ceremonies reflected gratitude for their contributions. During one of these farewell events, the Vice Dean I, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhrah, M.Si, stated, “Retirement is not the end of activity and creativity. Service does not stop just because we retire. After retirement, enthusiasm and optimism should continue. A retiree’s contribution becomes even more evident and necessary when they engage in community life.” On behalf of the leadership of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc, also expressed the highest appreciation and gratitude for their loyalty and dedication throughout their careers, noting that “Their loyalty and service remained untarnished until the retirement age.” At the retirement farewell events, each program presented a gift from colleagues in the form of a 10-gram gold ring as a memento for the retiring faculty members.
