PILMAPRES (Selection of Outstanding Students) serves as a platform for students to enhance their creativity, recognize distinguished students, and promote ideas and innovations to become agents of change in building Indonesia both on and off campus. In line with this, FMIPA at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), which aligns with the goals of higher education, organizes PILMAPRES annually.
The event is conducted in stages, starting at the program level, followed by the faculty level, then the university level, and ultimately the national level. The faculty-level PILMAPRES at FMIPA took place on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the Chemistry Undergraduate Program Seminar Room. The event was attended by Vice Dean I, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhrah, M.Si., Program Chairs and Secretaries, Heads of HR and Finance, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the Jury Panel, Supervising Lecturers, and participating students.
The PILMAPRES event was officially opened by Vice Dean I, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhrah, M.Si., who expressed her full support for the event and hopes that the true objectives of PILMAPRES would be achieved. She added, “PILMAPRES is also expected to inspire FMIPA students to become truly distinguished individuals who are knowledgeable in their fields, intelligent, noble in character, and possess wisdom rooted in values of honor.” She also commended the participants for taking this opportunity to gain valuable experience outside campus and achieve excellence.
The jury panel, chaired by Prof. Dr. Timbangen Sembiring, M.Sc., with members Liana Dwi Sri Hastuti, M.Si., Ph.D., and Dr. Irwana Nainggolan, M.Sc., is well-experienced in assessing students with comprehensive intelligence, including both hardskills and softskills. Before the assessments began, the jury chair outlined the evaluation rules to the participants.
This year’s PILMAPRES saw eight participants from different programs: Biology (Rafiqah Fitria Nasution, Immanuel Sitorus), Mathematics (Titin Miduk New Year Purba, Muhammat Rayyan Nasution), Chemistry (Alwi Khairunsyah Pinem, Muhammad Ibadurrahman), and Physics (Agus Nurbilah, Agnes Federova Napitupulu).
Each participant presented their scientific work in the form of creative ideas in English. This was followed by a Q&A session with the jury, and the winners at the faculty level were finally announced. The jury awarded Agus Nurbilah (Physics) as 1st Place, Muhammat Rayyan Nasution (Mathematics) as 2nd Place, and Muhammad Ibadurrahman (Chemistry) as 3rd Place. The 1st Place winner will advance to the university-level competition.
