Internship is a programme of learning as well as practicing working directly in a company for some time. The main purpose of internship for students is as a bridge between the world of lectures and the world of work. In this context, 10 students will be interned followed by 3 lecturers who will conduct research in Pakistan organised by the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) which lasts for 6-12 months.
Before leaving for Pakistan, students and lecturers held an audience aimed at providing a report to the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si for the departure of internships and research in the Rector's Audience Room of the USU Central Bureau of Administration Building. The audience was attended by the Rector of USU, Director of the Directorate of Internationalisation and Global Partnerships, Dean of FMIPA, Dean of Pharmacy, Head of the Chemistry Study Program, Head of the Biology Study Program, students and lecturers who will conduct internships and research in Pakistan.
On this occasion, the Director of the Directorate of Internationalisation and Global Partnerships, Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., said that this activity is one of the priority work programs of the rector and is certainly in line with international ranking indicators. In addition, he also hopes that this activity can be intensified so that students are motivated to have experience doing internships and research abroad. Currently, only biology, chemistry, and pharmacy students, as well as their accompanying lecturers, have left for Pakistan. Hopefully, this will be followed by other faculty members at USU.
Of the 10 students and 3 lecturers who represented USU for internships and research in Pakistan, most of them were students of the Biology Study Programme, namely Natasya Umayyah, Fatimah Raudatul Fadhilah, Helmy Nauli Lubis, Mufida Rahmadhani Hasibuan, Alvian Khadafi. Alfi Dwi Hadiani and Firda Rahmadiani. Furthermore, students from the Chemistry Study Programme, Artha Risma Uli, and from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Siti Rahma Sinaga. Meanwhile, lecturers who will conduct research as well as accompanying students are Denny Satria, M.Si., Apt from the Faculty of Pharmacy and from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dra. Nunuk Priyani, M.Sc and Crystina Simanjuntak, S.Si., M.Si.
Dr Nursahara Pasaribu. M.Sc as the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) said that preparations for carrying out this activity had been carried out from February 2022 to August 2022 and this hearing was a report on the departure of internships and research to Pakistan. He also added that with this internship in Pakistan, students can learn how to implement the knowledge gained on campus into real and useful work activities and provide optimal opportunities to learn things related to hard skills and soft skills in their field of knowledge. Furthermore, he hopes that the internship activities for students and research by lecturers will be able to increase foreign collaborations and scientific publications that are sustainable from year to year.
