FMIPA Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) triumphed as the Overall Champion at Mipantastic 2023, excelling in various competitions, including scientific writing, scientific posters, photography, and ON MIPA. This event serves as a platform to enhance student achievements in science and technology.

With the theme “Building Student Achievements to Reach the Golden Standards of Key Performance Indicators for Higher Education in Pioneering the 2045 Global Megatrends,” the MIPA National Scientist Competition (Mipantastic) 2023 was held once again. This event aims to enhance student achievements, academic skills, knowledge, and passion for Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The competition took place over two days in the Multipurpose Room of FMIPA USU and the Pharmacy Multipurpose Room on Friday and Saturday (December 8–9, 2023).
Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., Secretary of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations, representing USU Vice-Rector I Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.A., delivered the opening remarks. She encouraged participants to make the most of the event and hoped the series of activities would run smoothly. Dean of FMIPA USU, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., expressed her delight at the enthusiasm of participants from various campuses across Indonesia, including those from Java and Kalimantan. “Although it was postponed due to COVID-19, I appreciate the students from different universities across Indonesia. Hopefully, we can host another national-level competition like this in the future,” she said.
Dr. Kaniwa Berliani, S.Si., M.Si., Chairperson of Mipantastic 2023, outlined the event’s activities, from preliminary rounds to the finals across four competition categories. “I hope participants stay motivated and uphold sportsmanship throughout the competition,” she added.
The Mipantastic event aims to provide a platform for students across Indonesia to channel their creative ideas through the various competitions offered. This competition serves as a stepping stone for students in Indonesia to develop their scientific knowledge in the current industrial era and understand its applications in daily life. Besides fostering student achievements, this event is expected to provide input to improve the quality of higher education, especially in MIPA, and serve as a promotional platform to increase public interest in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Mipantastic 2023 featured four competitions: Scientific Writing, Photography, Scientific Poster, and the National MIPA Olympiad (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). It attracted 110 participants from 19 leading universities across Indonesia. As the host, FMIPA USU felt honored to welcome such a large number of participants. On the first day, the event concluded with a gala dinner and student performances attended by Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., representing the Dean, judges, supervisors, committees, and participants.
On the second day, the event opened with remarks from Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., followed by a talk show featuring a Jakarta-based influencer, Esther Natalia Dominiq Lubis, S.H., and the announcement of winners. FMIPA USU was crowned Overall Champion of Mipantastic 2023, securing numerous medals and trophies, including:
1st and 2nd place in Scientific Writing,
1st and 2nd place in Scientific Poster,
1st place in Biology, 1st place in Physics, and 1st place in Mathematics at ON MIPA,
1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Photography.
Dean of FMIPA USU, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., expressed gratitude for the participation of students from universities across Indonesia and encouraged them to continue their contributions to science.
