HUMAS FMIPA – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again marked an academic achievement with the addition of a new Permanent Professor to its academic ranks. The inauguration represented an important milestone in strengthening FMIPA’s academic and research capacity as one of the leading faculties within Universitas Sumatera Utara.
The inauguration ceremony was held in a solemn atmosphere at the USU Student Hall and was led directly by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., who officially inaugurated the new Permanent Professor of FMIPA USU. The ceremony was attended by university leaders, members of the Academic Senate, the academic community, family members, and invited guests from various institutions.
During the ceremony, the newly inaugurated professor delivered a scientific address presenting ideas, research findings, and academic perspectives related to her field of expertise. The address reflected a commitment to advancing knowledge, research, and innovation, with the expectation of making tangible contributions to the development of higher education and national development.
On the occasion, the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara expressed his hope that the growing number of professors at USU would further strengthen the university’s academic culture, increase research productivity and publications in reputable journals, and encourage the development of innovations that provide solutions to various challenges faced by society. The Rector also emphasized that professors play a strategic role as drivers of scientific advancement, mentors for future generations of academics, and key contributors to strengthening Universitas Sumatera Utara’s reputation at both the national and international levels.
Prof. Dr. Susilawati, S.Si., M.Si. stated that her inauguration as a professor was not the end of her academic journey, but rather the beginning of greater responsibilities to continuously advance knowledge, produce high-quality research, and strengthen collaboration with various stakeholders. According to her, higher education institutions play a strategic role in generating innovations capable of addressing contemporary challenges and delivering tangible benefits to society. She also expressed hope that this achievement would inspire lecturers and younger generations to continue creating, innovating, and contributing to national development through education and research.
The addition of a new professor to the academic ranks of FMIPA USU demonstrates the faculty’s success in strengthening the quality of its academic human resources. This achievement is expected to further strengthen the higher education ecosystem, expand interdisciplinary research collaboration, and enhance FMIPA’s contribution to developing science- and technology-based innovations that benefit society.
The inauguration also reaffirmed FMIPA USU’s commitment to supporting faculty members’ academic career development, strengthening its research culture, and improving the quality of the Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi). With the addition of a new professor, FMIPA USU is expected to further contribute to realizing Universitas Sumatera Utara’s vision as an excellent, globally competitive, and impactful higher education institution that contributes to national development.
