FMIPA USU attended the MIPAnet 2024 National Meeting to strengthen partnership networks and discuss innovations in the development of the mathematics and science field. This forum is a strategic step to increase the interest of the younger generation in science and technology.

FMIPA PR - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in the 2024 National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of MIPAnet, held from November 7–10 at the Batam State Polytechnic. The delegation from FMIPA USU was led by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc. This participation reflects FMIPA USU’s commitment to strengthening collaborative networks among Faculties of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA), Science and Technology (FST), and Science and Mathematics (FSM) across Indonesia.

The discussions began with a brainstorming session led by the Secretary-General of MIPAnet, Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si., focusing on the declining interest of the younger generation in MIPA fields. The session emphasized the importance of innovation in promotion strategies, curriculum introduction, and industry integration within education as critical steps to boost interest among prospective students.

This year’s Rakernas covered various strategic topics, including the development of start-up businesses, collaboration between business incubators, and university governance both before and after achieving PTNBH (State-Owned Legal Entity University) status. Discussions also included forward-looking strategies to enhance student interest in MIPA fields and optimize funding from endowment funds. The sharing of best practices and discussions culminated in formulating recommendations, facilitated by the Executive Secretary of MIPAnet, Prof. Drs. Budi Pratikno, M.Stat.Sci., Ph.D.

By participating in this MIPAnet forum, FMIPA USU gained valuable insights to further develop and strengthen the MIPA field. The second day’s discussions highlighted the critical role of foundational sciences in education—not only as essential knowledge for all prospective students but also as a discipline that can drive innovation and create business opportunities based on research.
