HUMAS FMIPA – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing higher education through collaborative initiatives among academic institutions. The Microbiology and Animal Systematics Laboratory of FMIPA USU hosted an academic visit from undergraduate Midwifery students of the Institute of Health Sciences of North Sumatra (Institut Kesehatan Sumatera Utara/INKES Sumut) on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The visit was organized to enrich the learning experience for the Microbiology and Parasitology course. Through this activity, students had the opportunity to observe the laboratory facilities firsthand, become familiar with various research instruments, and gain a deeper understanding of the application of microbiology in the health sciences.

The visit was formally requested by the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Institute of Health Sciences of North Sumatra, through Letter No. 857/FIKES-INKESSUMUT/VI/2026 addressed to the Head of the Microbiology and Animal Systematics Laboratory of FMIPA USU. The letter stated that the activity was intended to support students' learning process by providing more comprehensive practical experience in a laboratory setting.

A total of 15 undergraduate Midwifery students from the Institute of Health Sciences of North Sumatra participated in the academic visit. During the program, they gained broader insights into fundamental microbiological techniques, microorganism observation, and the role of laboratory facilities in education and research within the health sciences.

Through initiatives such as this, FMIPA USU continues to foster collaboration with educational institutions to support the development of high-quality human resources. In addition to serving as centers for education and research, FMIPA USU laboratories also function as learning environments that bridge theoretical knowledge and practical application for students from various academic disciplines.

This academic visit is expected not only to enhance students' competencies in microbiology and parasitology but also to strengthen future collaboration between FMIPA USU and the Institute of Health Sciences of North Sumatra in education, research, and community engagement.
