Public Relations FMIPA — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held the Selection of Outstanding Students (PILMAPRES) for the Undergraduate Program which took place in the Multipurpose Room of FMIPA USU, Unit 8, 1st Floor on Thursday, 21/03/2024.
Pilmapres is a student competition organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) under the auspices of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia every year which aims to give appreciation to the best students who are ready to become agents of change to build a better Indonesia, with a focus on Undergraduate and Diploma programs.
In her remarks, Rahma Yurliani, S.Psi., M.Psi., secretary of the Directorate of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, said, "I hope that the implementation of this Pilmapres activity can get superior seeds from several faculties at USU that can compete at the national level."
Vice Dean I of FMIPA USU, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., representing the Dean of FMIPA USU, gave a speech as well as opening the Pilmapres activity,
"This Pilmapres will also be able to increase the achievement of IKU, namely students getting off-campus experience consisting of off-campus activity experience and achievement acquisition," she said.
The event presented an experienced and qualified jury to select students with comprehensive intelligence and hard and soft skills. The judges for this year's PILMAPRES included Liana Dwi Sri Hastuti, M.Si., Ph.D., Dr. Irwana Nainggolan, M.Sc., and Dr. Martha Rianna, S.Si., with a total of 8 participants from various Undergraduate Study Programs at FMIPA USU.
The participants presented scientific works in the form of creative ideas for undergraduate study programs and innovative products for diploma study programs in English. They conducted a question-and-answer process with the jury. Then, a champion was obtained at the faculty level through the results of the jury's assessment.
After the results of the assessment of the jury, it was decided that the 1st place was won by Rani Natalia Purba from the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics, 2nd place was won by Mutiara Sani Harahap from the Undergraduate Program in Chemistry, and 3rd place was won by Misuki Awanda from the Undergraduate Program in Physics. The 1st place winner from FMIPA will compete further at the university level with 1st place winners from other faculties within USU.
The spirit continues to achieve superior achievements in intracurricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities because outstanding student awards are only for energetic students with hard and soft skills.
