The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences participated in the National Education Day (HARDIKNAS) commemoration ceremony under the theme “Lead the Recovery, Move for Free Learning”. The ceremony was held in the courtyard of the USU central administration bureau building on Friday, May 13, 2022. The ceremony was attended by the Rector and his staff, deans and vice deans, heads of study programs and secretaries and staff at the Universitas Sumatera Utara.

USU President Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., said that the entire academic community at USU must maximize their duties as educators by providing good service to students so that graduates can be more useful for the Republic of Indonesia.
The Rector also conveyed the contents of the speech of the Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim that this is currently the third year of the independent learning curriculum visiting the islands in Indonesia. The curriculum was started to try to help teachers and students during the pandemic and has proven to be able to reduce the impact of learning loss.

Next, at the end of his speech, the Minister of Education, Culture, and Research stated that today's pace has become more simultaneous. Our pace has accelerated. But we have not yet reached the finish line, so there is no reason to stop moving, even for a moment. There will still be strong winds and much bigger waves and much higher obstacles ahead. And we will continue to hold the command, lead the recovery together, move for Merdeka Belajar.

The audience who attended the HARDIKNAS Ceremony this time, including the USU Rector, wore traditional regional clothing in Indonesia. “In accordance with the contents of the circular letter, it is advisable to wear traditional clothing so that it can remind the diversity in Indonesia,” said the Rector.

The FMIPA lecturers who attended the commemoration of HARDIKNAS stood in line wearing various traditional clothes. The traditional clothes worn came from various tribes, namely Aceh Rayeuk, Aceh Gayo, Malay, Batak Toba, Batak Simalungun, Batak Karo, Palembang, Betawi, Sunda, Java Solo, and others. This diversity is expected to provide potential that can be utilized by the faculty, particularly USU, in the realm of national education. Thus, it is believed that education can instill and apply the values of diversity in life in order to educate the nation's life.

Dean of FMIPA, Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc, said the diversity of ethnic groups in Indonesia can be seen from various angles, one of which is from regional clothing. By understanding the diversity of ethnic groups, we will appreciate each other more.

“With the spirit of education pioneer Ki Hadjar Dewantara, let us apply the motto tut wuri handayani to work together to lead the recovery, in accordance with the theme of HARDIKNAS 2022,” added Nursahara.
