FMIPA USU celebrated its 58th Anniversary with events such as seminars, scientific orations, fun walks, blood donations, and bazaars. The event was attended by USU's Vice Rector II, lecturers, students, and alumni, featuring games and exciting prizes.

To celebrate the 58th Anniversary of FMIPA, a series of events were organized, starting with a health seminar on "Healthy Lifestyle" on August 24, 2023. This was followed by a Scientific Oration, Fun Walk, blood donation, health checkups, and a bazaar on Friday and Saturday, November 10–11, 2023. The event was attended by USU Vice Rector II, Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP., representing the Rector.

 

In his speech, Vice Rector II expressed his hopes for FMIPA’s future. “With this milestone, I hope FMIPA continues to enhance its role and contribution in producing excellent, competent, and professional graduates, who can fulfill their responsibilities and bring benefits to humanity,” he stated.

During the annual speech and report at the 58th Anniversary, FMIPA Dean, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., shared the faculty’s achievements both nationally and internationally. She also expressed gratitude to the lecturers, staff, students, and alumni for their contributions to these successes.

The celebration also featured a Scientific Oration by Drs. Hermansyah, M.Si., Head of the Geological Survey Center at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, discussing “The Contribution of Geological Agencies to Supporting Net Zero Emissions.”

Amid the festivities, the Dean, Vice Rector II, Deputy Deans, and the Chair of FMIPA Alumni Association received symbolic fruit tree seedlings from Sigit Budi Nugroho, S.Si., M.Si., Head of the North Sumatra Watershed Management Agency. The 58 seedlings represent FMIPA’s 58 years and will be planted around USU.

 

The Scientific Oration concluded with the cutting of a ceremonial tumpeng rice cone by Dean Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., Vice Rector II, FMIPA Deputy Deans, the Chair of the Alumni Association, and FMIPA Professors.

After Friday prayers, the event continued with exciting competitions involving students, staff, and lecturers, such as balloon racing, bamboo basket relay, joyful sarong races, and cardboard relays.

The following day began with a Fun Walk involving faculty leaders, lecturers, staff, and students. Registration started at 6:30 a.m., and the participants then embarked on a predetermined route, starting and ending at the FMIPA gate. Dean Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., flagged off the event with a start flag and confetti launch. All participants were very excited and immediately walked according to the track route. The route is on the track Jl. Bioteknologi, Jl. Prof. Hanafiah, Jl. Dr. A. Sofian, Jl. Universitas, Jl. Abdul Hakim, Jl. Library, Jl. Alumni, Jl. Almamater, then back again to Jl. Bioteknologi as the finish line.

Along the Fun Walk route, there were three stops: Station A provided drinking water, Station B allowed participants to drop off lottery tickets, and Station C marked the finish line, where breakfast was also served.

After completing the route, participants joined a ceremonial session, featuring an opening by the host, the Indonesian national anthem, and traditional dance performances by FMIPA students.

The event continued with speeches from the Dean, the Chair of the Alumni Association, and a communal breakfast.

Games such as Balloon Dance, participated in by students, staff, and lecturers, added to the joy. Winners of the games received attractive prizes from the organizers.

On the second day of celebrations, Vice Rector II attended, drawing lottery tickets and enjoying traditional dance performances.

The random lottery draw created excitement, as prizes ranged from bicycles, refrigerators, and televisions to gas stoves and other valuable items.

The 58th Anniversary also featured a bazaar with booths from students, lecturers, staff, and external partners. The bazaar aimed to foster entrepreneurship among students, featuring 17 booths, including Coffee Sanubari, Erlangga, Uni Emi, Say-Jito, HMJ Chemistry, Bolu Stim Menara, Microbiology Lab, Catering Nyiarsih, Rumah Briket, Bakso Bakar Raksasa, Zigidrink, Zainab Collection, Juragan Takoyaki, Kembar Fruit Salad, Teh Poci Piscok Bunda, and Petik Sunkist.
