FMIPA USU – Medan

The tree-planting activity held at the FMIPA USU parking area on Thursday, November 23, 2023, demonstrated the collaboration between FMIPA and BPDAS Sumut in promoting kindness on campus. This event was part of the 58th Anniversary celebration of FMIPA USU, attended by representatives from BPDAS Sumut, including Sigit Budi Nugroho, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS), Vice Deans of FMIPA USU, and the entire academic community of FMIPA USU.

Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., representing the Dean of FMIPA USU, stated that the tree-planting activity at FMIPA USU was a collective effort to raise awareness among the campus community and students about the importance of environmental preservation for a healthy life. “Planting 58 fruit tree seedlings symbolizes that FMIPA USU has reached its 58th year. This milestone represents a mature age, signifying our readiness to face global changes in the education sector,” Cut added.

Sigit Budi Nugroho, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of the Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) and an alumnus of FMIPA USU's Mathematics program (class of 1995), expressed his gratitude to the leadership of FMIPA USU and the entire campus community for jointly participating in maintaining the ecosystem at FMIPA USU. He hopes that FMIPA USU will become greener. “Returning to FMIPA reminds me of my college days and the campus environment with its many shady trees, whose ecological benefits we still enjoy directly and indirectly,” said Sigit.

The trees planted during this event were various types of fruit tree seedlings. This initiative aims to provide ecological benefits, such as shade and clean air, as well as the potential for fruit production in the future. Hopefully, the seedlings planted today will serve as a testament to the kindness sown for the entire FMIPA campus community and society at large.
