Undergraduate Program (S-1)

Established in 1965, the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has become a unit responsible for in-depth education in mathematical sciences. Supported by the best individuals with high quality and integrity, our lecturers are committed to guiding students in learning mathematics as a whole, from geometry, algebra, to discrete mathematics.

Welcome to the website of the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

The Undergraduate Program in Mathematics of FMIPA USU was established in 1965, which was previously the Department of Mathematics under the Faculty of Pasti and Natural Sciences (FIPIA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara. In 1982, FIPIA changed to FMIPA. Furthermore, in 2021, the Department of Mathematics FMIPA USU changed to the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics FMIPA USU.

The Undergraduate Program in Mathematics FMIPA USU has four areas of expertise: Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematical Computation, and Pure Mathematics. The Undergraduate Program in Mathematics received a “Very Good” rating from BAN-PT, valid from August 2, 2022, to March 30, 2027. The Undergraduate Program in Mathematics at FMIPA USU strives to improve quality and produce the next generation of innovative and competitive young people. This is evidenced by the international achievements of seven students in the last two years, including in the International Mathematics Competition (IMC), International Call for Paper Java Business Competition, Ken Steven International Choral Festival, World Taekwondo Changmookwan Championship, and as many as 17 other achievements at the national level.

The group of students who participated in PKM and were selected to participate in PIMNAS under the Ministry of Education and Research won the favorite champion with the Smart Pond innovation. A student became a liaison officer at the event “The High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2022” by the United Nations ESCAP under the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, and a student won 2nd place in the vocal group at PEKSIMINAS 2022.

For the MBKM Program in 2021, there are 11 students who carry out, with details: under the Ministry of Research and Technology, there are six students of the Independent Study Program, two students of the Merdeka Student Exchange, and two students of KMMI, and under the Ministry of Social Affairs, there is one student with the Young Fighters program.

To improve the quality of learning and research, in 2021, two lecturers of Undergraduate Program in Mathematics received competency certificates with the competencies “Database Programmer” and “Database System.”

My critical and analytical thinking skills were honed at USU Mathematics.

While studying at the USU FMIPA Undergraduate Program in Mathematics, I won a bronze medal at the National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KNMIPA) in Mathematics. I received an honorable mention at the International Mathematics Competition in 2022. In addition, I wrote a thesis in Pure Mathematics titled 'Metric Vector Space and Fixed Point Theorem of Φ-Function on Metric Vector Space.' These achievements cannot be separated from the role of lecturers who always train my critical and analytical thinking framework. They provided tremendous support and guided me with in-depth knowledge and inspiring teaching methods. All of this enabled me to graduate as the best graduate of USU Mathematics in the 2nd graduation period of 2023.
