Description
The International Summer Course 2026 “Lake Toba – Biodiversity Insight” is an international academic program organized by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara, on October 4–17, 2026. The activity features interactive learning, field laboratory activities, a field trip to Lake Toba, a photography competition, and international networking, with a focus on biodiversity, ecology, microbiology, virology, plant physiology, and natural product-based development.
FMIPA PUBLIC RELATIONS — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), will organize the International Summer Course 2026 under the theme “Lake Toba – Biodiversity Insight” from October 4–17, 2026.
This activity is an international learning program that combines academic activities, field practice, biodiversity exploration, and international networking. The series of activities will take place in Medan and the Lake Toba area, North Sumatra.
The International Summer Course 2026 covers several thematic fields related to life sciences and the utilization of natural resources, including Virology, Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, Biodiversity, as well as Phytomedicine and Natural Product-Based Drug Development.
Program Series
In its implementation, participants will take part in various activities designed to provide direct and interactive learning experiences, including:
- Interactive Lecture Session
- Field Laboratory Activity
- Field Trip to Lake Toba
- Photography Competition
- International Networking
The program also features a number of academics and practitioners as speakers from Indonesia and abroad. The presence of these speakers is expected to enrich participants' insights into biodiversity, ecology, biology, and the sustainable utilization of biological resources.
Learning and Exploration Opportunities
Through this activity, participants will have the opportunity to learn with international and local experts, gain interdisciplinary knowledge, develop practical skills, and directly explore the rich biodiversity of the Lake Toba area.
In addition to the academic aspects, participants will also gain field exploration experiences and build networks with participants from various academic backgrounds.
Open to Students
The International Summer Course 2026 is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in science, biodiversity, the environment, and sustainability.
Interestingly, this program is FREE for participants.
