All praise be to Allah SWT for His blessings and grace, through which the Master’s Program in Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has successfully developed its official website. The presence of this website is expected to facilitate the open dissemination of information to the postgraduate academic community, alumni, the public, and other related institutions. Therefore, allow us to present a brief overview of the Master’s Program in Mathematics at FMIPA USU, along with its strengths and distinctive features.

The Master’s Program in Mathematics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (hereinafter referred to as S2-Math) was officially established based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 3091/D/T/2001 dated September 26, 2001.

In implementing its academic activities, S2-Math has formulated its program objectives, Expected Learning Outcomes (ELOs), curriculum, and assessment methods to evaluate the achievement of those ELOs. These formulations refer to the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 44/2015 on National Standards for Higher Education, as well as inputs from alumni and stakeholders, benchmarking results from several master’s programs at international and national universities, and accreditation documents from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT).

The main strength of the Master’s Program in Mathematics lies in its ability to produce graduates who excel in the field of optimization, both in theory and application. Furthermore, graduates are trained to be adaptive and capable of pursuing further studies in mathematics or other related fields, keeping pace with the rapid advancement of science and technology. They are also equipped with information technology literacy, strong mathematical computing skills, and a sense of responsibility, self-confidence, emotional maturity, ethics, and character as lifelong learners.

Graduates of the Master’s Program in Mathematics possess strong logical thinking and adaptive abilities. Their mathematical competence is complemented by skills in mathematical modeling and foundational knowledge of information technology. Students also learn the fundamentals of ethics and civics, as well as the foundational knowledge required for developing mathematics and applying it to real-world problems, supported by adequate IT skills.

We sincerely hope that the presence of this website will strengthen communication and information exchange among alumni, particularly as part of FMIPA’s efforts to trace graduates across various sectors and regions. In addition, this platform is expected to enable faster access to academic information and keep all parties informed about the rapidly evolving scientific developments.

The readiness and active participation of the entire academic community are crucial to the sustainability of this website. Without such support, its existence would not serve its intended purpose effectively.
