Opened in 1983, the Undergraduate Program in Physics at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a provider of superior higher education in the field of physics, including theoretical, material, and instrumentation physics.
With the best facilities and infrastructure available and supported by experienced and qualified lecturers, our study program is committed to producing graduates who have high competitiveness. They are expected to be able to create the latest products or technologies that can compete at the national and international levels. Graduates of the Undergraduate Program in Physics have a variety of career opportunities, including as researchers, instrumentation technicians, and material engineers.
Vision & Mission
To become a leading study program that implements the three pillars of higher education in the field of physics and its applications nationally, and to be able to compete globally by 2030.
- Providing high-quality higher education in physics and its applications, resulting in graduates who are able to compete nationally and are recognized internationally.
- Developing basic and applied research in the field of physics by utilizing local potential to obtain highly competitive products/technologies that meet national and international standards.
- Implementing science and technology (IPTEK) in the field of physics and its applications through community service programs to improve the welfare of the community.
Goals & Targets
- To develop graduates in the field of physics and its applications who embody the core values of Piety, Innovative, Resilient, and Wise (BINTANG) so that they can compete nationally and internationally.
- To develop graduates in the field of physics and its applications who have the ability to continue their education to higher levels (master's and doctoral degrees) at the national and international levels.
- To develop graduates who are able to apply and utilize the principles and concepts of physics and its applications in processes and issues in society and industry.
- To set up laboratory facilities to support educational, research, and community service programs with the aim of delivering high-quality education and research that is beneficial to scholars, researchers, and the community.
- To increase sustainable partnerships with domestic and foreign institutions, both government and private, in developing the three pillars of higher education.
