Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
I am Prof. Dr. Tri Harsono, a student of the third cohort of the Doctoral Program in Biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Sumatera Utara. I feel that during my studies at FMIPA USU, I experienced many conveniences and support.

First, in terms of academic services, the implementation of total quality management has been running very well. In addition, my supervisor, Dr. Nurhasanah Pasaribu, has been extremely helpful.

Almost every month, three to four times, she would ask me about the progress of my research. Alhamdulillah, thank you, Dr. Nur. Without your guidance, I might not have known what to do.

The excellent collaboration between Dr. Nur as my first promoter, as well as the second and third promoters, also greatly supported my progress. This good cooperation helped me complete my studies more quickly.

I hope that we, as alumni, can contribute ideas and material support for the development of our alma mater in the future.

May the Doctoral Program in Biology at Universitas Sumatera Utara continue to grow and improve.

From the beginning of the supervision process, Prof. Dr. Alex Ternala Barus, as the supervisor of my dissertation, provided substantial additional knowledge and valuable guidance for my research. His advice to explore extensive literature and independently determine my research topic became both a challenge and a strong source of motivation in developing my dissertation proposal.

The corrections and feedback given by Prof. Alex greatly improved the quality of my research proposal. Throughout the research process, he consistently provided motivation, both directly and indirectly, ensuring that my research progressed continuously and productively.

Drawing from his extensive experience in research and academic writing, Prof. Alex encouraged me to think creatively, develop independent answers, and formulate deeper research questions based on the findings I obtained. Prof. Dr. Alex Ternala Barus is a highly experienced scholar in his field, and I feel truly fortunate to have been supervised by him.

With due respect, I would like to seek permission from you and the organizers to share some reflections on my academic journey during coursework and thesis supervision under your guidance, along with a few messages through this written testimonial.

My name is Putri Cahaya Situmorang, one of your supervised students in the PMDSU Program funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology during the period 2017–2021. Over approximately four years of pursuing my master’s and doctoral studies, I was actively involved in various research grants and laboratory activities under your supervision.

These experiences have been immensely valuable to me. You were not only a supervisor, but also a father figure on campus—someone who was always approachable, accessible at any time, and available even without prior appointments. You are widely recognized as a friendly and highly competent scholar in the field of molecular biology in health sciences, consistently providing critical, objective, and constructive insights in academic activities.

On this occasion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude, especially to Prof. Dr. Syafruddin Ilyas, for guiding me to achieve the title of Doctor at the age of 27, with an H-index of 6, through the PMDSU scholarship. Thank you for your time, dedication, and sacrifices, both morally and materially.
