Concentration

The following is a list of specializations contained in Doctoral Program in Biological Science

Plant Structure and Function

Plant Structure and Function

Plant Structure and Function in Biology is a field of study that focuses on researching the structure and function of plant organisms, from the molecular level to the ecosystem level. This research field covers a variety of important topics, such as plant physiology, plant anatomy, plant cell biology, and plant interactions with their environment. Plant physiology studies how plants carry out various life processes, such as photosynthesis, respiration, water and nutrient transport, and responses to environmental factors such as light, temperature and humidity. The study of plant anatomy covers the internal and external structures of plants, including organs such as roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits. Plant cell biology is an important part of this study, focusing on the structure, function, and reproduction of plant cells. This includes research on cell development, differentiation, and genetic regulation that affects plant growth. Plant interactions with their environment include the relationship of plants with other organisms, such as symbiotic interactions with microbes or pollinating animals, as well as plant responses to environmental stresses such as contamination, climate change, and biodiversity decline.
Animal Structure and Function

Animal Structure and Function

Animal Structure and Function in Biology is an in-depth field of research into the structure and function of animal organisms from the molecular level to the ecosystem level. Through this scientific study, researchers understand various vital aspects of animal life, including animal physiology, animal anatomy, animal cell biology, and animal interactions with their environment. Animal physiology studies the biological processes and functions of organs in the animal body, including processes such as respiration, digestion, blood circulation, and responses to the environment. Animal anatomy includes the study of the internal and external structure of animals, including the organs, body systems, and physical adaptations that enable the survival and functionality of the organism. Animal cell biology is an important field that focuses on the structure, function, and characteristics of animal cells. This includes the study of cellular organs, metabolic processes, and cellular responses to environmental stimuli and changes. Animal interactions with their environment include the relationship of animals with environmental factors such as food, predators, habitat, and interactions between species. This study helps us understand animal behavior, reproductive strategies, migration, and adaptations that enable survival in various habitats.
Ecology

Ecology

Ecology in biology is a field of research that explores the complex interactions between living organisms and their natural environment. Its main focus is to understand how living things, both individuals and communities, interact with each other and their environment. The field covers many aspects, including interactions between species, populations, communities, and ecosystems. The study of species interactions addresses how organisms interact, whether it is in the form of predator-prey, symbiosis, competition, or other relationships that affect the balance of the ecosystem. The study of populations aims to understand how populations of organisms grow, decline, and change over time. In community studies, the focus is on the relationships between different populations of organisms that share the same habitat or environment. An ecosystem is the largest unit in ecology, which includes all interacting organisms in an area along with abiotic factors such as water, air, and soil. The study of ecosystems addresses energy cycling, nutrient flow, and the effects of environmental change on ecosystem composition and structure. The main objective of this group is to understand the basic principles of ecology and provide essential information for natural resource management and environmental conservation.
Microbiology

Microbiology

Microbiology is one of the group of fields in biology that focuses on the study and research of microorganisms, which are small organisms that can only be observed with the help of a microscope. The microorganisms studied include various forms, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and archaea. This group studies the unique properties, structure, and function of microorganisms, as well as how they interact with their surrounding environment and other organisms. The study of microbiology covers a wide range of important topics, from the characterization of microorganisms to tracing their impact on various aspects of life. Through this research, microbiology scientists try to understand the underlying biological mechanisms of microorganisms, including genetic traits, metabolic processes, life cycles, and adaptations to the environment. The main goal of this group is to understand microorganisms, both individually and in their communities, and their important role in biological processes. In addition, the ultimate goal is to provide solutions to various challenges faced in health, agriculture, environment, and industry.
