The Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Dr. Muryanto Amin, S Sos, M Si, paid special attention to the condition of educational support facilities at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) USU. During his working visit to the faculty on Friday (25/6/2021), he directly visited all existing facilities, from laboratories to other supporting facilities and infrastructure.
Muryanto Amin found many rooms that were inadequate but were still used by students and lecturers in the teaching and learning process. According to him, this is quite alarming considering that FMIPA is one of the faculties that contributes the most to Student Creativity Proposals (PKM) at USU. “After going around, I saw many inadequate facilities in this FMIPA. Even though, as we all know, FMIPA is one of the largest PKM Proposal contributors at USU,” said the USU Rector.

In his communication with one of the laboratory assistants, he received information that the existing equipment still came from the 1974 procurement. Dean of FMIPA, Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, MSc, confirmed this. He said that the faculty he leads has not been touched by a comprehensive rejuvenation effort for a very long time. Rejuvenation is needed to improve student comfort. “As we can see, especially in our laboratories, there is still a lot of lack of equipment needed. There are 28 laboratories in FMIPA, and all of them need a touch of rejuvenation. Some laboratories are even in a very risky condition to use,” said Nursahara.
The USU Rector was present at FMIPA USU accompanied by the USU Vice Rector, the Rector's Expert Staff, the Head of PSI USU, and the Head of the USU Exist Team. On the other hand, FMIPA USU was represented by the Dean and Vice Deans, as well as lecturers and education staff.
