HUMAS FMIPA – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) actively participated in the Orientation Program for Department Chairs, Department Secretaries, Study Program Chairs, and Study Program Secretaries, organized by Universitas Sumatera Utara on July 17, 18, and 20, 2026, at the Digital Learning Center (DLC), 8th Floor. The program aimed to strengthen academic leadership while enhancing participants' understanding of governance, institutional policies, and the management of departments and study programs within USU.
FMIPA USU was represented by newly appointed Department Chairs, Department Secretaries, Study Program Chairs, and Study Program Secretaries. Their participation reflects the faculty's commitment to ensuring that academic governance aligns with Universitas Sumatera Utara's strategic direction toward becoming a globally competitive institution of higher education.
The orientation commenced with opening remarks and a keynote address by the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara, Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., under the theme "Strengthening Study Programs in Support of the Rector's 2026–2031 Priority Agenda." In his address, the Rector emphasized the importance of synergy among faculties, departments, and study programs in achieving the university's strategic goals through improvements in education, research, innovation, governance, and national and international collaboration. Participants also received briefings from the Vice Rectors covering their respective areas of responsibility, including academic affairs, human resources, finance, information systems, research, partnerships, planning, and infrastructure.
As part of the program, the Dean of FMIPA USU signed a Performance Agreement with the Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara. The agreement represents a shared commitment to achieving the university's strategic objectives throughout the 2026–2031 leadership period. Through this agreement, the Dean pledged to strengthen faculty governance, enhance the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, increase research and innovation productivity, improve FMIPA's academic reputation at both the national and international levels, and ensure the achievement of the university's established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
The signing of the performance agreement also symbolizes FMIPA USU's commitment to strengthening accountability and fostering a high-performance organizational culture. By establishing measurable targets and implementing continuous evaluation, all units within the faculty are expected to work collaboratively toward realizing Universitas Sumatera Utara's vision of becoming a world-class university distinguished by excellence in education, research, community engagement, and innovation.
The Dean of FMIPA USU stated that the orientation serves as an important foundation for department and study program leaders to better understand their strategic roles in advancing academic quality. In addition to gaining a comprehensive understanding of university policies, participants are expected to implement governance practices that are effective, adaptive, and results-oriented within their respective academic units.
Through the orientation program and the signing of the performance agreement, FMIPA USU further reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a professional, collaborative, and performance-driven organizational culture. With strong leadership at the faculty, department, and study program levels, FMIPA is confident in its ability to make even greater contributions to Universitas Sumatera Utara's transformation into an innovative, globally competitive university of excellence.
