The IKA FMIPA USU Alumni Gathering, themed “Maintaining Connections: Join Old Friends,” was successfully held at the FMIPA USU Multipurpose Hall on Saturday (11/4/2023).
The Dean of FMIPA USU, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., delivered the opening remarks and officially inaugurated the event. She expressed her hope that this event would enhance FMIPA USU’s branding to expand its network within industry and government sectors.
“Alumni, as a source of information about the professional world, are expected to make significant contributions to our graduates who are striving to secure jobs. This will ensure that FMIPA graduates obtain employment opportunities that, in turn, support FMIPA USU’s accreditation,” she explained. Furthermore, FMIPA USU is undergoing internationalization transformation. To achieve this goal, FMIPA USU focuses on its World Class University program, faculty branding, international accreditation preparation, and infrastructure upgrades such as international-standard smart classrooms and other facilities, she added.
Chairman of the FMIPA Alumni Association, Ir. Heri Batanghari Nasution, M.Sc., also delivered a speech, emphasizing the event as a platform for reconnecting and voicing alumni aspirations to advance FMIPA USU. “This certainly represents the alumni’s hopes for FMIPA USU’s development,” he stated. He also expressed his optimism that the Alumni Gathering would enable alumni to make positive contributions to FMIPA USU’s growth.
On this occasion, Ulfi Handayani, M.Kom., representing the Director of Student Achievement and Alumni Relations at USU, presented various alumni programs, one of which is the Alumni Card currently in development. “The Alumni Card, which is still under process, will allow us to transform student ID cards into alumni cards,” she explained. These cards will also offer promotions through partnerships with participating merchants.
This year’s Alumni Gathering not only served as a reunion for alumni with their professors and campus environment but also included discussions on strategies and programs to advance FMIPA in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology study programs. These discussions were led by each program’s head, with secretaries acting as moderators. Alumni expressed their hopes for current students to achieve even greater success in the professional world, equipped with superior soft and hard skills. During the discussions, alumni enthusiastically shared ideas and program suggestions to support the fulfillment of the university’s Key Performance Indicators.
