Information technology (IT) is a technology that has a function in obtaining data, processing, processing, compiling, storing, changing in all kinds of ways to obtain useful or quality information. So, IT is also the science needed to manage information so that the information can be searched easily and accurately. The data or information can be in the form of writing, sound, images, videos, and so on. Furthermore, the function of IT is to solve a problem, open creativity, and increase effectiveness and efficiency in human activities. It is undeniable that the rapid development of IT will have a major effect on all areas of human life, including the field of education in the FMIPA USU environment. Currently, along with its development and progress, IT is able to provide new solutions and services for educational activities. Along with that, IT is also one of the driving forces in creating high-quality education at FMIPA USU. Information technology (IT) utilizes electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, process, protect, transmit, and obtain information securely. IT includes everything related to the process, use as a tool, management, and transfer or transfer of information between media. With the existence of IT, the Education Personnel (tendik) can utilize these various supporting facilities to coordinate and archive important documents in academic, research, administrative, and services to lecturers and students of FMIPA USU with a faster response time. “The purpose of this activity is expected to achieve the competence of qualified education personnel to use information technology better and more efficiently in work so that it can be applied in organizing administration and increasing service satisfaction,” said Vice Dean II FMIPA USU, Dr. Susilawati, M.Si. Therefore, in order to support the digitalization era at FMIPA, IT training activities for staff have been carried out on 4-5 August 2021. This training was attended by 18 staff members representing 17 study programs in FMIPA. The training took place in the function room on the first floor of FMIPA, starting at 08.00 to 15.00 WIB offline while still implementing health protocols recommended by the government.
The resource persons for this information technology training are internal FMIPA USU speakers who are experts in their fields, namely Tulus Joseph Marpaung, S.Si., M.Si (Lecturer in Mathematics FMIPA USU) and Meyman Sokhi Ziliwu, S.Kom., M.Kom (Staff of HR Subdivision FMIPA USU). The material of this training activity includes handling IT support device problems, IT-based data storage and backup (Cloud/Google Drive), sending and receiving data and other supporters, IT-based applications supporting administrative processes (Ms. Office) and data conversion, IT-based applications supporting administrative processes (Ms.Office) and data conversion, and maintenance of IT support devices. The material provided provides an increase in the ability to use IT for the tendiks, who, in the implementation of their work, are more required to have operational or administrative technical skills. So, in general, the ability of the staff is important in achieving one of the main performance indicators of the university.
