FMIPA USU Holds Outcome Based Education Curriculum Updating Workshop and Best Practice Fast Track Curriculum

FMIPA USU successfully held a curriculum update workshop with Outcome-Based Education and Fast Track Curriculum approaches. This activity is expected to improve the quality of graduates and meet the needs of industry and academia.
FMIPA PR - The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a workshop on “Pemutakhiran Kurikulum Outcome-Based Education dan Best Practice Fast Track Curriculum.” This activity was attended by Vice Dean I, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., Vice Dean II, Dr. Susilawati, S.Si., M.Si., and lecturers from the USU Physics Master and Doctoral Study Programs. This workshop was successfully held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at the 3rd Floor Meeting Room of FMIPA USU.
The Head of the USU Masters and Doctoral Program in Physics, Dr. Drs. Syahrul Humaidi, M.Sc., in his remarks, welcomed Prof. Dr. Lia Yuliati, M.Pd., and Ely Hayati Nasution, S.S., M.Si. He hoped that this curriculum updating workshop could benefit the community and meet the needs of industry and academia. He also conveyed the importance of a curriculum that is integrated with technology, art, and society in the field of Physics so as to produce graduates who are competent and able to keep up with the development of science and technology.
Vice Dean I of FMIPA USU, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., who represented the Dean of FMIPA USU (Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc.) who was unable to attend, gave a speech and opened this workshop. In his remarks, he revealed, “This curriculum update workshop activity is the duty of all of us because it is a mandate from Permendikbud No. 53 of 2023 concerning quality assurance for universities. Of course, we need to update the curriculum so that it is in accordance with the times and can produce quality students who are able to compete.”
The activity continued with the handover of a plaque from FMIPA USU, represented by Vice Dean I, Dr. Cut Fatimah Zuhra, S.Si., M.Si., to the resource person, Prof. Dr. Lia Yuliati, M.Pd.
Prof. Dr. Lia Yuliati, M.Pd., presented the material entitled “Outcome-Based Education (OBE) & Best Practice Fast Track Curriculum.” This material emphasized the importance for study programs to actually implement the steps in curriculum preparation with the OBE approach as well as the accelerated study program without sacrificing the quality of the Physics curriculum.
Ely Hayati Nasution, S.S., M.Si., in her presentation entitled “Revisi Kurikulum Program Studi Magister/Doktor Ilmu Fisika Merujuk Peraturan Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Nomor 53 Tahun 2023,” stated that it is important for postgraduate study programs to immediately adjust the curriculum to the latest policies. The policy focuses on strengthening the achievement of graduate competency standards through innovation and integration in teaching design, research, and community service. Thus, the graduates produced will have competitiveness and benefits for the business world, industry, and other stakeholders, and ultimately can contribute to the accreditation of study programs at the national and international levels.
