Testing laboratories serve as facilities for conducting technical activities involving personnel to carry out testing, aiming to produce results with specific purposes. ISO 17025 serves as the competency standard for testing and calibration laboratories. This standard is an international reference for laboratories performing calibration and testing activities worldwide. Essentially, the purpose of laboratory activities is to obtain valid and widely trusted testing and calibration results. Based on this, one of the laboratories in the Biology Study Program at FMIPA conducted an accreditation assessment for ISO 17025 implementation on September 21–22, 2023.

The accreditation assessment of the FMIPA Microbiology Testing Laboratory was conducted by an assessor team led by Ms. Murtiningsih, M.App.Sc., and team member Ms. Ratri Alfitasari, S.T., M.Sc., from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN). The event was attended by the Dean, Vice Deans, Head and Secretary of the Biology Study Program, microbiology teaching staff, and laboratory technicians.

The Dean of FMIPA, Prof. Dr. Nursahara Pasaribu, M.Sc., expressed hope that the accreditation of the Microbiology Testing Laboratory would bring significant advancements in research innovation, particularly for lecturers and students within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), and benefit the wider community in the future. “We also extend our gratitude to the Microbiology Laboratory team for preparing the documents required for this ISO 17025 accreditation,” added Prof. Nursahara.

The assessors’ visit to the laboratory was accompanied by the Head of the Microbiology Laboratory, Dr. Liana Dwi Sri Hastuti, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., and her team. She showcased and explained several rooms, testing instruments, and documents required for accreditation. “This microbiology laboratory needs ISO 17025 accreditation as a quality assurance for the products and services we provide in testing and sampling,” said Dr. Liana.
